TACT (Tasmania-Adelie Corridor Transits), aims at unraveling the age structure along the Tasman corridor. We would use several transits of the French L’Astrolabe icebreaker in the 2011-2012 austral summers to collect magnetic anomaly data. These new data would enable us to reconstruct the early Cenozoic motions between the East Tasman Plateau and the South Tasman Rise. Extensive magnetic coverage across the edges (north and south) of the corridor should provide the first direct evidence for the oldest oceanic crust found there. Finally, this dataset is expected to help us refine the Miocene motions of the Macquarie Plate and the West Antarctic rift system.
