Thanks for the reply - it is good to discuss these aspects. And thanks for your effort driving this group.

I agree that drafting a recommendation has to be extremely tailored towards mining SMS. And my approach would be even a very technical one: What datasets are required evaluate impact and monitor it over time, where and how to acquire and store these data, how to obtain it (financing), and how to evaluate it (independence from industry, obviously).

Concern about InterRidge's role to "provide expertise" (J. Escartin)

Through the InterRidge web page, I have read with great concern the report of the Shangai meeting.  It is my recollection (steering committee in St Peterburg) that this panel was put in place to work on a code of conduct and procedures to evaluate environmental aspects and set requirements for industry. I find extremely worrysome that there is a push to expand the role of the group to 'provide expertise' for mining industries (prospecting) and provide 'expert assistance to industry'.
