InterRidge has been granted observer status at the ISA, allowing InterRidge to be present at public meetings of the Assembly and by invitation, to make oral statements on issues of concern, although it will not be able to participate in decision-making. This increases our links with the ISA and will strengthen our ability to engage with developing countries, which remains one of InterRidge’s main challenges.

ISA approves two applications for exploration licences for polymetallic sulphides
The ISA has approved two plans of work for exploration for polymetallic sulphides in the international deep seabed Area. China Ocean Minerals Resources Research and Development Association (COMRA), and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of the Russian Federation which submitted their applications on 7 May 2010 and on 24 December 2010 respectively.
2010 InterRidge Student and Postdoctoral Fellowship awards
The InterRidge Steering Committee is very pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 InterRidge Student and Postdoctoral Fellowship programme - Shinsuke Kawagucci, Baby Divya and Akumbom Vishiti. Three awards were made this year, one from InterRidge and two which were provided from the International Seabed Authority Endowment Fund, which aims to support the participation of qualified scientists and technical personnel from developing countries.
Statement of Responsible Research - a Code of Conduct survey
Four years after the “InterRidge statement of commitment to responsible research practices at deep-sea hydrothermal vents” was published, it seems appropriate to evaluate the potential awareness, relevance and efficiency of this code of conduct. Duke University, in collaboration with InterRidge, propose a survey, dispatched among the scientific community working at hydrothermal vents.
Participate in the survey before March 15th 2010. It will take 5-10 minutes.

Exploring Hydrothermal Vents of Pescadero Basin
Continuing to explore the Gulf of California, Pescadero Basin Expedition aims to explore the geological, biological and geochemical features of the recently discovered Pescadero Basin hydrothermal vents. From October 30 to November 6, 2017, E/V Nautilus will launch the second expedition exploring little-known regions of this region’s seafloor with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Call for PIs to offer berths for new IR cruise bursaries
InterRidge continues support of cruise travel bursaries. These are to enable early career, ridge-crest scientists to participate in mid-ocean ridge research cruises. Up to $2000 USD will be awarded for travel and subsistence costs to facilitate embarkation and disembarkation.
Call for articles for 2013 InterRidge News
The InterRidge Office is calling for articles to be included in this year's InterRidge News, Vol. 21, published in November 2013, and we would very much like to hear from contributors. Suitable material includes preliminary results of research related to ridges, back-arc basins and ophiolites. Also, we are looking for general articles on shipboard or immediate post-cruise results, new equipment, opinion articles and workshops reports. In particular, we would want you to supply 1-4 high resolution images with any article (minimum pixel width = 1000).

InterRidge Liaison Panel to produce exploration guidelines
A new InterRidge Liaison Panel for the formation of guidelines concerning exploration and exploitation of vents has been formed. It will liaise with mining interests and policy makers to engage all interested in the very topical issue of SMS deposits at hydrothermal vents.
Six InterRidge cruise bursary students currently on cruises
Six InterRidge-funded students are currently participating on cruises in the Pacific and Atlantic, courtesy of InterRidge's cruise bursary scheme.
Berta Biescas-Gorriz (Dalhousie University), Guillermo Bornstein and Jhon Fredy Mojica-Moncada (both at CSIC, Barcelona) are participating in Suzanne Carbotte's cruise to the Juan de Fuca plate as part of a complex program involving both the R/V Langseth and the R/V Oceanus.
