The meeting "SERPENTINE DAYS", sponsored by the French Mineralogical Society (SFMC) and the Deep Carbon Observatory (DCO), will be held in the welcoming island of Porquerolles (France) from the 2nd to 6th of September, 2012. This will be an international meeting, with English presentations dealing with crystallochemistry, rheology, thermodynamics, origins of life, magnetic properties and societal implications.
The meeting covered the following topics:
- Mid ocean ridges processes: volcanism, tectonics, and hydrothermalism
- Hotspots, ridges, and their interactions
- The fate of volcanic islands: from construction to destruction with a focus on the Mascarene Islands and the nearby Indian Ocean.
Conference programme and abstracts
The meeting was supported by InterRidge, the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and the Mauritius Institute of Oceanography (MOI).
"Ocean Challenges in the 21st Century", to be hosted at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK

Abstract deadline: 26 March 2012
Late registration fee after 31 July 2012
