First iMOVE workshop

The first iMOVE workshop will be held in Bergen (Norway) on 6-8 February 2019. The objectives will be to (1) set up the basis for the 'iMOVE online platform' that will link to all observatories websites and data repositories, (2) discuss/produce a report on means for data integration, and the future of observatories - where are we after a decade? what observatories for tomorrow?, and (3) prepare the second larger workshop/conference that will be dedicated to scientific results.

Global Seamounts Project - Call for participation

A new international project has been proposed called the Global Seamounts Project (GSP), to intensively survey a range of 18 seamounts in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean basins, over eighteen expeditions beginning in 2019 and continuing through 2023. The project will generate standardized sets of inter-calibrated, multidisciplinary field data over the survey range to develop a new ecosystem model for seamounts.

Framing a successor program to IODP

The European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) organizes the workshop PROCEED – exPanding fROntiers of sCiEntific cEan Drilling – aiming at initiating concepts and defining new goals for a future international scientific ocean drilling program to be developed beyond 2023 as a successor to the International Ocean Discovery Prog

Recent paper of InterRidge Working Group on Ecological Connectivity and Resilience

InterRidge Working Group on Ecological Connectivity and Resilience, chaired by Anna Metaxas and Lauren Mullineaux, has recently published a review entitled "Exploring the Ecology of Deep-Sea Hydrothermal Vents in a Metacommunity Framework" in Frontiers in Marine Science. Congratulations to authors for this thorough review of current knowledge and gaps on the mechanisms supporting the stability of vent meta-communities, of high relevance to the assessment of impacts at regional scales and design of protection plans!

1st workshop of the IR WG on MOR Islands and Seamounts - call for abstracts

The 1st international workshop organized by the InterRidge Working Group on MOR Islands and Seamounts will be held between 19 and 21 September 2019, in Lisbon (Portugal). The workshop aims to identify priority areas for research in all aspects of islands and seamounts located near to ridges, including geological, oceanographic and biological aspects. Participation in the workshop is open to anybody outside the WG and will involve an extended poster session on the first day.
