The InterRidge Office is pleased to announce the first recipient of the Cruise Travel Bursary scheme. She is Melis Cevatoglu, who is studying at the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, University of Bogaxici, Istanbul, Turkey. She will be working with Julie Perrot, on the HYDROBS-MOMAR2 cruise, on board R/V Le Suroit.
The scientific goal of the HYDROBS-MOMAR2 survey is to understand the distribution of the low magnitude seismicty of mid-Atlantic ridges using hydrophones moored in the SOFAR channel. The HYDROBS-MOMAR2 cruise is a turn-over of the five hydrophones moored south of the Azores around the MOMAR area. One year of data will be recovered and the hydrophones will be re-deployed.
The scientific objectives of Melis is both: 1) to learn how to deploy hydrophones and get familiarised with oceanographic surveys, and 2) to understand the methodology by programming the parameters of the hydrophones. She will process the data in the laboratory.
