Education and Outreach

To commemorate human and scientific contributions of Prof. Pietro Passerini (University of Florence, Italy), the journal Ofioliti - published by the Working Group on Mediterranean Ophiolites (GLOM) - offers an award of EUR 5,000 for the best PhD Thesis on ophiolite topics, financed by the Passerini family.

Returning to the University of Leicester for the fifth year, the ECORD Summer School: Downhole Logging for IODP Science focuses on downhole-logging within the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and the applications of downhole measurements in various geoscientific fields, including paleoclimatology, sedimentology, and broader geological and ecological processes.

The application period is now open for the 2020 SCOR Visiting Scholars Program. Applications are due by 1 December 2020 and selections will be made by the SCOR Committee on Capacity Building by 1 January 2020.

As every year the InterRidge Student and Postdoctoral Fellowship Program continues to play an important role in the careers of young ocean scientists. There was a high number of proposals submitted this year and we are pleased to award two early-career researchers in this call.

Opportunity

The Simons Foundation invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships to support research on fundamental problems in marine microbial ecology. The foundation is particularly interested in applicants with training in different fields who want to apply their experience to understanding the role of microorganisms in shaping ocean processes, and vice versa, as well as applicants with experience in modeling or theory development.

The next call for applications for InterRidge Student and Postdoctoral Fellowships will be announced in 2020 after the transition of the IR Office to the next host country.

国际大洋中脊协会(http://www.interridge.org)指导委员会诚邀您参加2015年9月25-27日在杭州举行的第三届国际大洋中脊理论讲习班，讲习班的主题是国际大洋中脊协会第三个十年规划(http://www.interridge.org/thirddecade)中的前两项主题，即“大洋中脊的岩浆和构造过程及海底资源”。讲习班的主要目的是总结上一个十年规划中国际上的主要研究进展，讨论未来新的研究方向，并借此推动第三个十年规划所倡导的国际合作。讲习班将邀请国际知名科学家做主题发言，并欢迎广大从事洋中脊相关工作的科学家参与讲习班。此外，国际大洋中脊协会还将选出两名最佳学生报告人，颁发证书和奖金。
