Back-Arc Basins
Chair: Sang-Mook Lee The goal of this working group was to summarize past work on Back-Arc Basins and coordinate future studies. The working group was formed in the Fall of 1997 and was disbanded in 2006. Go to webpage
Hotspot-Ridge Interactions
Chair: Jian Lin, USA, Jerome Dyment, France The goal of this working group, organized in 2000, was to promote and facilitate global research to better understand the physical and chemical interactions between mantle plumes and mid-ocean ridges and their effects on seafloor geological, hydrothermal, and biological processes. Southwest Indian Ridge
Chair: Catherine Mével This working groups objective was to coordinate reconnaissance mapping and sampling of the Southwest Indian Ridge. Formed in 1997, this working group fused in 2001 with the other successful working group "Arctic Ridges" to make up the Ultraslow Spreading Ridges Working Group in 2004 Go to webpage
Arctic Ridges
Chair:Colin Devey The goal of this working group was to coordinate planning efforts for mapping and sampling the Arctic Ridges. This group was formed in 1994 and in 2004, fused with the South West Indian Ridge Working Group in 2004 to form the Ultraslow Spreading Ridge Working Group. Go to webpage
Global Digital Databases
Chair: Philippe Blondel This working group was active between 1995 and 2000 and had the goal to establish a database of multibeam bathymetry and other data for the mid-ocean ridge and back-arc basins. Go to webpage
Global Distribution of Hydrothermal Activity
Chair: Chris German This working group was active between 1995 and 2001 and had the objective to target areas of the global MOR which are unexplored for hydrothermal activity and coordinate international collaboration to explore them. Go to webpage
4-D Architecture of the Oceanic Lithosphere
Chair: Jian Lin This working group was active between 1996 and 2004 and had hte objective to promote international efforts to constrain the composition and structure of the oceanic lithosphere, and their along- and across-axis variability. Go to webpage
Event Detection and Response and Observatories
Chair:Chris Fox This working group was active between 1995 and 2001 to develop detection methods of transient ridge-crest seismic, volcanic and hydrothermal events, and the logistical responses to them through a strategy of international collaboration, and establish a long-term observatory in the Atlantic. This working group developed into the current working group "Monitoring and Observatories" Go to webpage
